Sikkim
Land of Mystic splendor
SikkimSituated between Nepal and Bhutan, Sikkim is an amazing place of hidden valleys, mystical monasteries, snow-fed lakes and a mountain setting covered with flowers and forests. Mt. Kanchenjunga, the third highest peak in the world at 8686m. dominates the landscape and is reversed as Sikkim’s guardian deity.
Gangtok at 1780m. is the capital of Sikkim, is a charming laid-back town straddling a ridge with houses spilling down the hillside. The places to visit are Enchey Monastery, a Tibetan Buddhist Lamasery, Institute of tibetology which houses rare statues, manuscripts, ritual objects and thanka painting, D0-drul Chorten, an impressive stupa ringed by prayer wheels, Government institute of cottage industries for souvenirs and the exotic market of Lal Bazaar.
Entry formalities
All foreigners intending to visit Sikkim must hold a valid Indian visa. Inner Line Permit for 15 days can be obtained along with visa from Indian missions aboard, or from Delhi, Calcutta, Siliguri, Gantok and Sikkim Tourism Offices at Darjeeling.
Accessibility
For both Sikkim and Darjeeling the nearest airport is Bagdogra in North Begbal with regular service between Delhi, Calcutta and Guwahati.
Bhadrapur and Biratnagar are the two nearest airport in Nepal. The closest railway stations are siliguri and new Jalapaiguri connecting with Calcutta, Delhi, Guwahati, Lucknow and other important cities of India.
Darjeeling-Sikkim Trek
Sangakphu Trek- 5 nights/6 days
This trek is specially to experience culture, native people and superb mountain views. The trek provides an opportunity to explore the local people’s lifestyle and their culture and beautiful landscape scenery of the area with magnificent kanchanjunga mountain view without going too far and too high. This is something extra than just visiting Darjeeling/Sikkim.
Day 01: Arrive in Darjeeling and over night at hotel.
Day 02: Drive to manybanjyang and trek to tonglo 2800m. 3/4 hrs. Morning view of Kanchendzonga and the surrounding mountains
Day 03: Trek to kalpokhari 2900m. 5 hrs.
Day 04: Trek to sandakphu 3600m. 3hrs. This is the main highlight of the trek from here you can see the both highest mountain mt Everest and Kanchenjunga and the sunrise is breath taking.
Day 05: Trek to mollay 3000m. 6hrs. The whole day walk is beautifully with the mountain view .
Day 06: Trek to Ramam 2500m. 4hrs. This is a jungle walk where you can see the rhododendron, magnolia, silverfirn and oak nut and other species.
Day 07: Trek to Rimbik 2000m. 4hrs. and transfer to kalingpong.
Day 08: Transfer to further destination.
Sikkim Dzongri Trek
Day 01: Arrive Bhadrapur/Bagdogra airport and transfer to Darjeeling about 4-5 hrs drive. O/N hotel
Day 02: Darjeeling sightseeing. Visit Yiga Cholling Monastery, Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, Zoo and Tibetan Refugee Self Help Centre. O/N hotel
Day 03: Transfer to Gangtok about 4-5 hrs drive. O/N hote
Day 04: Gangtok sightseeing and permit formalities. O/N hotel
Day 05: Transfer to Yuksam (1780m) about 6 hrs drive. O/N camp
Day 06: Trek to Sachen (about 2200m) about 4-5 hrs. O/N camp
Day 07: Trek to Tshoka (3005m) about 3-4 hrs walk. O/N camp
Day 08: Trek to Dzongri (4030m) about 5-6 hrs walk. O/N camp
Day 09: A day at Dzongri to explore. O/N camp
Day 10: Trek back to Tshoka 3-4 hrs walk. O/N camp
Day 11: Trek back to Yuksam 5-6 hrs walk. O/N hotel
