This trek visits both Gokyo Lake and Kalapattar routes by crossing Cho La pass (5,420m/ 17,782ft). It is an exhilarating experience to walk at the very base of Cholatse and Tawache peaks and turn toward Everest Base Camp. This trek requires experience in walking on ice and crossing high pass with snow. The trek begins with flight to Lukla airstrip then walk to Phakding. From here an easy going up crossing Dudh Koshi River several times then a steep ascent to Namche Bazaar – a Sherpa capital. Normally a day is spent here for acclimatization and just soaking up the atmosphere of this bustling village.
From here the trail passes through the Sherpa settlements with tremendous scenery, as we climb towards Gokyo we have superb views down the valley to Kongtega and up towards Cho Oyu. The views from Gokyo-Ri are spectacular with the best being obtained after a short climb above the lake. On the way to Cho-La we follow the valley’s eastern side to Thagnak offering more spectacular views. Crossing the pass; we head up to Lobuche village and finally to the Gorak Shep just a little away from Everest base Camp and Kalapattar the best view point for Mt. Everest and other surrounding peaks. Kalapattar climb and excursion to Everest Base Camp can be made in a day. The trail descends to Tengboche-Namche and then to Lukla and fly back to Kathmandu .
