A cultural city tour in Bhutan

7 nights 8 days program

Day 01- Kathmandu – Paro - Thimphu.
Transfr to airport and fly to paro by druk air. Upon arrival, our Bhutanese escort will greet you on arrival then depart to Thimphu, the modern capital of Bhutan. The drive will take around 1½ hour. Thimphu has a population of about 100,000. The town is made up of just three lines of shops and is the only capital in the world without traffic lights. Check In at hotel and dinner will be served. Dinner and overnight at hotel.

Day 02- Thimphu sightseeing
Thimphu sightseeing includes a visit to the visit National Memorial Chorten, built in honour of our late King Jigme Dorji Wangchuk and also visit the Folk Heritage Museum, which is dedicated to connecting people to the Bhutanese rural past through exhibition of items and artifacts used in rural households, Textile Museum, where the art of traditional weaving is still kept alive and preserved through exhibition and has a good collection of old textiles which are rich in its color and design. After that visit the School of Arts and Crafts where the 13 Crafts are taught to the Young Children which was established in 1971 with two objectives in mind, a) to preserve and promote the traditional arts and crafts and b) to create more job opportunities. Also visit paper factory, Zilukha nunnery. Evening ends with a walk through Thimphu’s main shopping areas. Dinner and overnight at hotel.

Day 03- Thimphu – Punakha
After breakfast we depart in our vehicles for Punakha. Leaving Thimphu, the road climbs steeply through a forest of pine and cedar festooned with hanging lichen high. As we approach the Docho La – ‘la’ (3050m / 10,065f), breathtaking panoramic views of the mighty Himalayas are spread out around us. We stop for tea and the view on the pass and drive onto the Punakha Valley. Visit Punakha Dzong, winter seat of the Je Khenpo and ancient capital of Bhutan, remarkably located between the rivers of the Mo (Female) Chu and Pho (Male) Chu. Overnight and dinner at hotel.

Day 04- Punakha – Gangtey
After breakfast , depart to Gangtey. Gantey lies to the east of Punakha and Wangdue on the flanks of the Black Mountains. Passing an old monastery, Gangtey Gompa (circ 17th century), we enter the Phobjikha Valley. Described as the most beautiful valley in the Himalayas, the Phobjikha Valley is winter home to black-necked cranes which migrate from the arid northern plains to pass winter in Phobjikha’s milder and lower climate. Dinner and overnight at hotel.

Day 05- Gangtey – Wangdue
This morning we walk across Phobjikha Valley and into the Khewa Valley, where we visit an old temple. In the afternoon we drive to Wangdue. Overnight and dinner at hotel.

Day 06- Wangdue – Paro
Morning visit Wangdiphodrang Dzong. Enroute to Paro small hike to Chimi Lhakhang . After lunch shopping for souvenirs in the shops of Thimphu. Before depart to Paro visit mini zoo to see National Animal of Bhutan called TAKIN. Dinner and overnight at Hotel in Paro

Day 07- Paro hike to Taktsang and Paro Sightseeing
Morning we drive to Ramthangkha, the terminating point of the motorable road and then hike up to the Taktsang monastery (Tiger’s nest). The hike up to the cafeteria will take around two hours of average walking speed and is located above 2,950 meters (9,678 feet) above sea level. At the view point enjoy the stunning view of the monastery, where Guru Padmasambhava landed on the back of a tigeress in the 8th century. If you desire then you can hike up to the monastery and visit the monastery which contains thirteen holy places. Taktsang is one of the most venerated pilgrim sites of the Himalayan World. The monastic complex clings to the rock towering 900 meters above the valley (over 2,600 feet). After the visit to the temples walk back to the cafeteria for your lunch. After lunch we then walk back to the road point and then visit Kyichu Lhakhang, one of the oldest temples in Bhutan. Dinner and overnight at hotel.

Day 08- Paro - Kathmandu/Bangkok/India
Your Bhutanese escort will bid you farewell at Paro airport or at the border. Good-bye and happy journey to unward destination.

Booking procedures: Booking for any trips should reach us at least one weeks in advance with passport details and full payment. Please note that the visa processing is initiated only after the receipt of the payment. After visa clearance, we will give you the copy of same, which you will have to produce while checking in for the flight to Paro. The original visa is stamped on your passport upon arrival at the Paro airport or at entry point.

Tour Payment: All tour payments must be settled one month in advance of commencement of the tour to clear the Bhutan visa. Bank detail will be provided once the tour is confirmed.
